new customer here and im wondering why it takes a very long time to get an aswer from the staff when i submit a ticket? now im starting to think theres only 1 or 2 staff working around vexxhost. i hope this service will improve in time.

Hi guys, I'm new here :D

I came accross your site while looking to set up JomTube and my current host does not have the bits and pieces to make it work. I like what I see and am sure that everything could work without a hitch (knock on wood).... BUT.... why are you guys so damn cheap?

I'm currently paying $35/month for a 3Gb reseller package with someone else and they only provided half the stuff you do. Mind you they have never let me down in 6 years, but in the end, money talks!

Here I can get an unlimited package for $5.95 (incl. dedicated IP)???? What's the catch :confused:

Hi guys, i want to know why fantastico is not workinga at Sharing Hosting and the other Free Website Plug-in scripts

Fantastico is not installed at the default location /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico. Either move the Fantastico directory from it's current location to /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico OR enable ioncube loaders in WHM -> Tweak settings.

ruby on rails

I am on shared70 server. I have deployed my ruby on rails server after following the instructions found in knowledge base. And I have written capistrano tasks to start my server and write a rewrite in .htaccess and get it work. But my server gets killed after sometime. This happens again and again after restarting my server.

Does anyone has the same problem? Am I missing any permissions or should I need any sudo access to launch the server? Please help.

Password Protected Directories

I have been using Vexxhost for the last few years for my business website. I am a photographer and I use the password protect directories feature within CPanel to lockdown specific client galleries. In the past, any file that was within a password protected directory was unavailable without first submitting the required username and password.

Recently this has changed and instead, direct links to specific files, for example:

"www.photographerperson.com/galleries/jennyjames/jennyjameswedding.html"

where "/jennyjames" is the protected directory allow the user access without needing to submit the require password. This is a massive security issue for my website. Strangely, users trying to access the protecteddirectory, or a folder within the protected directory are met with the login window, however direct links, which I use regularly within my site, seem to somehow bypass or ignore the password protection.

This is only a recent occurrence. This did not used to be the case. In the past ALL files within a protected directory were off limits unless you supplied the required login details. This is how I believe the system should work and I'd like to get back to this situation as quickly as possible.

I have emailed Vexxhost Support about this but they have yet to get back to me. Anyone who could give me any advice on this matter would be doing me a huge favour.

Every night at 1:00 I want to start ffmpeg by a cronjob and let it produce a 3(!) timelapse-films: *.webm + *.mp4 + *.ogv
All formats I need for my HTML5 player!

Deploying Ruby Enterprise Edition On The Cloud

The first step in this process is to make sure that you have an existing cloud server that is deployed on your account, you can create one by visiting our CloudManage control panel and following the instructions, we recommend a base CentOS 5 server. The minimum specifications will suffice and you can upgrade them at anytime you wish.

Installing Ruby Enterprise Edition
This is a special optimized version of Ruby that improves performance and that's created by the same guys who created Passenger for Rails applications. You would need to SSH to the server and run those commands.

# wget http://rubyenterpriseedition.googlecode.com/files/ruby-enterprise-1.8.7-2011.03.tar.gz
# tar -xvzf ruby-enterprise-1.8.7-2011.03.tar.gz
# ruby-enterprise-1.8.7-2011.03/installer

You may get some errors that you have some missing dependencies. It should give you instructions on how to add them however this command should be more than enough for freshly deployed vexxhost cloud servers.

# yum install -y gcc-c++ zlib-devel openssl-devel readline-devel

Afterwards, you can run the ruby-enterprise-1.8.7-2011.03/installer command and continue with the installation of Ruby Enterprise Edition.

When setting up REE, it will ask you to provide a path for installation, I strongly recommend that you go with this path instead of the default path in order to upgrade easily:

Where would you like to install Ruby Enterprise Edition to?
(All Ruby Enterprise Edition files will be put inside that directory.)

[/opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.7-2011.03] : /opt/ree

For the rest, you should go grab yourself a drink while the server will compile all of Ruby Enterprise Edition for you, the rest of the process is fully automated and should not require any further changes.

hi! I need to configure these paths on vexxhost server and i don't know where to find it in my cPanel. Can someone help me? Below are the path i need, and what i have set now.

Hello everybody,

i have a project on master studies and it's near to the end, but i am having problems with converting video files to flv.

I see that i can use ffmpeg and tried the code that was posted here, but this script didn't do anything.

I have downloaded ffmpeg package and flvtool2 also. Putted it in 2 separate folders. Then inserted the path in the script towards these folders, but it seems that this isn't the right way.

So can anybody help me with this please? I am also little bit short with time so any fast help would be great :)

Hi there, I have the holiday shared hosting plan which includes ffmpeg, but when installing boonex dolphin it gave me this error...

flash/modules/global/app/ffmpeg.exe Non-Executable

I thought there was something I needed to do to install the ffmpeg, but it seems after reading several of the posts in here that it should be already active.

Can someone please shed some insight to what I need to do to get this working?

Hi there folks!

I want Apache not to parse any file in a directory, so that it would send a .php file straight to the browser. I guess the best thing to do this would be using the .htaccess file with


SetHandler default-handler

in it.

And it works.

Now my problem is, that I still want index.php to be parsed, but nothing else. When i come up with another or -command, it does not overwrite the first one.
I guess it might work with or -commands in my .htaccess file but that will come up with a server error 500, stating that
Am I doing something terribly wrong? I'm out of ideas :confused:
